Dental crowns at Plymouth City Centre Dental Practice

When a tooth becomes weakened by decay, fracture, or large fillings, a dental crown allows us to protect it and restore strength. Crowns cover and support the tooth, helping it function comfortably and reducing the risk of further damage.

At Plymouth City Centre Dental Practice, we plan dental crowns around your bite, tooth structure, and long-term oral health. Our aim is to restore the tooth in a way that feels natural, fits precisely, and lasts.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a custom-made covering that fits over a damaged or weakened tooth. Sometimes called a “tooth cap,” a crown restores the tooth’s shape, strength, and appearance while protecting it from further wear or fracture.

We use crowns to repair teeth with large fillings, cracks, heavy wear, or following root canal treatment. Each crown is designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth and bite.

How much does a dental crown cost?

The cost of a dental crown depends on the tooth involved, the material used, and the complexity of the restoration. We provide clear pricing guidelines on our pricing page, but will give you a personalised treatment plan with a full cost breakdown before beginning your treatment.

To help spread the cost of a dental crown, we offer finance through Tabeo, including 0% options over 10 or 12 months, as well as longer-term plans of up to 60 months where interest applies.

Assessment and planning

We assess the tooth, surrounding structure, and your bite before recommending a crown.

Tooth preparation and crown fitting

We prepare the tooth carefully and fit a custom-made crown designed for precision and comfort.

Review and long-term care

We check bite balance, comfort, and guide you on caring for your crown.

Do I need a dental crown?

You may need a dental crown if a tooth has become weakened, cracked, heavily filled, or painful when biting. Crowns protect teeth that would otherwise be at risk of further damage or fracture.

During your consultation, we assess whether a crown is the most appropriate option or whether alternatives, such as fillings or onlays, would provide sufficient protection. Our recommendations focus on preserving tooth structure and long-term stability.

Dental crowns planned by experienced restorative dentists in Plymouth

We’ve served Plymouth for over 30 years, supporting patients with restorative care that prioritises long-term outcomes. When we plan a dental crown, we consider how your teeth meet, how forces act on the tooth, and how the restoration will perform over time.

Our clinicians plan crowns alongside other restorative options, ensuring each decision supports your wider oral health.
